I still remember my first ever visit to Goa where I got my very first glimpse of it from the airplane window. Those emerald patches of coconut groves embracing the golden beaches, the historical Portuguese-era churches scattered as pearls around the longitude and latitude of Goa. That was two years ago, and since then, I have made it my mission to explore every corner of this magical Indian state. What started as a casual vacation has now evolved into a deep love affair with Goa’s luxury villa scene. And one of the most fortunate things is that I have experienced some of the most breathtaking properties across the region.

So, this happened just last month, while I was sipping evening tea on a hillside terrace in Assagao. Trust me the beauty there is breathtaking, I was watching the sun paint the sky in shades of orange and pink. My experiences throughout these years has changed my perspective on Goan hospitality. It’s not always about the stunning architecture or the infinity pools anymore – it’s about finding that perfect balance between luxury and authenticity, between privacy and connection to the local culture.

After spending my vacation across multiple accommodations, throughout years across Goa, I have become somewhat of a villa evangelist. Does not matter how enhancing a place is, if you are not comfortable in your space, it will not be as enjoyable as you expect. There is always something magical about having your own space.

Last year, I accidently came across a villa named The Luxury Castle in Assagao. The experience was ethereal. I watched my niece take her first swimming lesson in our private pool while my mother enjoyed her morning tea in the garden. All these while being completely undisturbed by other guests. That’s when it hit me – this is what vacation should feel like.

One of the best features of this villa is their personalized services that sets villas apart. I still remember the house manager who remembered my preference for morning coffee without sugar. The locals call it the “Beverly Hills of Goa,” and while that might sound pretentious, there’s truth to it. During my stay here, I came across some incredible hidden gems, including tiny cafes, boutique stores, and yes, villas that seamlessly blend Portuguese heritage with modern luxury.

Siolim: Riverside Tranquility

Siolim too holds a special place in my heart because it is where I learned to appreciate Goa’s quieter side. The first time I stayed here, I spent hours just watching the Chapora River and let me tell you, it was indeed very meditative. Additionally, the colonial architecture here tells stories of a bygone era, giving you easy access to both the pristine beaches of Morjim and Ashwem and the vibrant energy of central North Goa.

The Social Hubs: Candolim, Calangute, and Baga

Moving further, I won’t lie – these areas can get overwhelming, especially during peak season. But if you are with a group that loves crazy stuff, these neighborhoods offer unparalleled convenience. My family, which includes  hyper GenZ, absolutely loved its energy providing both water sports and nightlife scene. And the key to ultimate fam jam getaway is finding a villa that offers privacy within the chaos. I have stayed in some beautiful properties offering home-like opulence in the heart of Goa’s busiest tourist zone.

South Goa: Where Time Stands Still

South Goa has a different tempo altogether. When I first stayed in Cavelossim, I recall feeling rather guilty that the days crept by so slowly. But that is the charm of this place – it makes you slow down, to take notice of the little things.

Colva and Benaulim: Traditional Comfort

These are the beaches that come to mind for many people – the long expanses of white sand, swaying palms, and laid-back atmosphere that’s becoming ever rarer. The villas here are larger, set amidst gardens like private parks.

Cavelossim and Mobor: Ultimate Luxury

This is where I take clients who demand the best. The homes here are topnotch, many times located between the river and the ocean, with the best of both worlds. I’ve had honeymooners who refused to leave their villa because anything they required was readily available.

Palolem: Bohemian Paradise

Palolem is where I retreat when I need to reconnect with nature. The crescent beach is breathtaking, but it’s the coconut groves around it and the yoga resorts that truly make this place stand out. Here I’ve spent some of my most introspective moments, often while taking early morning strolls on the beach.

What Makes a Villa Experience Truly Special

Throughout vacations, I have discovered that luxury is not just defined by the size of the pool or social media buzz. It is about the personal touches which make you feel belonged. It lies in small and subtle things like the chef who learns your family’s preferences and the house manager who arranges impromptu cultural experiences. During my recent stay at The Luxury Castle, what struck me most was how the team anticipated our needs without being intrusive.

Timing is everything: I always book my favorite villas and that is The Luxury Castles without a shadow of doubt, in advance. The best properties get snapped up quickly, as everyone wants the best for them.

Location matters:  Consider what you want from your vacation. Your location of stay will decide your entire experience and comfort. So, always choose your stay where you can enjoy it with comfort and class.

Don’t just read reviews – understand them: This I have learned the hard way. To read between the lines is needed. 

Size your villa appropriately: Whether you are with your partner, family, or friends, always choose the size that can fit your crowd. Once, I stayed in The Luxury Castles which accommodated my entire team from office in their 12 BHK villas.

Finding Your Perfect Match

After all these years of exploring Goa and various stays in Goa, I have come to believe that the perfect villa is not just about amenities or location – it’s about finding a place that resonates with your soul. It can be anything ranging from a heritage property in Assagao to a beachfront villa in South Goa, or a hillside retreat to the wild and crazy vibe of Northern Goa.

My advice? Don’t just book accommodation – choose an experience that makes you home without your home. Talk to managers, understand the neighborhood, and most importantly, trust your instincts and choose the stay without compromising your comfort.

As I write this, I’m already planning my next Goan adventure, and I can’t wait to discover what new corners of this incredible state will capture my heart next. But one thing is sure that is where my stay will be.
